News from the Area
Hello everybody from your friends in the Wirral Group. You will no doubt be aware that the Group went through difficult times towards the end of 2012. At that time a small group of members resolved to keep the BCPA alive in Wirral where it has been in existence for almost 26 years.
We decided to look at the way forward as ‘a team’ sharing ideas rather than with a Co-ordinator. Whilst our first planned meeting in January became a non-event at a very late stage due to the atrocious weather conditions on the day, we did meet again on 11th February at our new venue at St Stephen’s Church in Prenton Lane, Prenton.
On this occasion the weather was much better, almost pleasant, and we engaged in a meeting of ideas and suggestions over tea and biscuits in the Noble Room. This comfortable, compact and heated room is very suitable for our meetings. Everybody present was happy with the new surroundings and we had a lively debate over a couple of hours. We resolved to look at lunchtime meals locally and also theatre visits with a minibus driver to take and collect us. Currently, being a small group, this would be ideal for us.
To this end, the staff in the local Prenton Library have been very helpful in providing us with a host of brochures for local events that would be of particular interest to our type of group once the weather improves; and we thank the library staff for their input and work.
As a small group we would ideally like to increase our membership numbers. It was the general feeling that many cardiac patients living in the area are unaware of the existence of the BCPA in The Wirral. To this end we felt that we should try to advertise our meetings locally and it was suggested that we approach Keith Jackson to see whether any BCPA posters are available for this purpose. Keith has promised to give his attention to this.
We could also approach local newspapers who may be prepared to offer us free space to advertise our meetings and this is also worth following up. Lots of ideas were put forward and the meeting ended on a bright note.
That is all our news for the moment.. You should receive this Journal just prior to our next meeting on 8th April. So, as a Group, can we ask for your support on that day in the Noble Room at St Stephen’s Church, Prenton Lane, Prenton at 2.00.pm. We look forward to seeing old friends again and some new faces and we do hope that you can join us.
In the meantime do take care and stay warm until the weather improves as surely it will and we look forward to bringing you our report again next time. It only remains for us to say ‘Cherrio for now’ from the lovely, but very cold, Wirral.
